On 23 June 2002 I was at Christies auctioneers and was drawn to a small painting depicting a Semi-Nude Lady. It was a painting by Han van Meegeren, world's best counterfeiter of 17th century masters like Johannes Vermeer, Frans Hals and Pieter de Hooch. This small painting was the start of my fascination for this extrodinary man. As good as all his forgeries can be found in the Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam), Boymans van Beuningen (Rotterdam) and the Groninger Museum. My private collection contains work in his own style.
